PLEASE DO NOT:

Use your expertise to teach people about something potentially valuable to them. Focus on giving readers something that will benefit them just for having read your column.

* Be reader-centered and objective. Put yourself in your reader's shoes and ask yourself if what you are writing sounds objective. Are you mentioning all of the options a reader has? Readers will appreciate openness, honesty and objectivity...and trust you more.

* Be specific. The more detail you provide, the more useful the column will be. Don't hold back information. Give freely of your expertise.

* Be practical. Give readers practical knowledge that will allow them to take some action to their benefit. Suggest specific things they can do to make improvements or where they might get more information on their own.

* Be original. Please don’t pull articles from the Internet to submit.
