SPIRITUALLY RESPONSIBLE LIVING Be compassionate • Beliefs matter • Be present • Choices abound • Everything is energy I am currently in a period of re-calibrating my life. Say what?! Well, I’m finding it helpful to make sure that the various projects I have going, the things I want to create for myself, are actually on track to happen. It’s a vibrational world that we live in – the law of attraction governs us all – and so I want to be sure that I am a vibrational match for what it is I am intending to create. I call it a re-calibration because I have done a lot of this work before. Yet given that my attention has been focused for the last several months on writing a book, I want to be sure to clear out any cobwebs that may have developed in the interim with regard to it and other projects. The basic idea here, as I mentioned, is really nothing more than consciously engaging the law of attraction because it’s always on and we are always getting what we are a vibrational match for. In our day-to-day living, the primary components to be aware of are intentions and beliefs. Some people refer to intentions as their goals and/or desires and/or wants and/or wishes and/or hopes and/or whatever. That’s fine. But I have found it is helpful, once we have clearly identified what it is we want, to talk about it in terms of an intention. Try it for yourself and see how it feels: Say, I want a new car and breathe it in. I want a new car. Now say, I intend to have a new car and breathe that in. I intend to have a new car. It feels different, doesn’t it? More powerful? More scary? That’s okay, because what likely will come up, right off the bat, immediately, is a thought or a number of thoughts about why getting a new car won’t happen. I intend to have a new car. (Yeah but it won’t be the kind I want.) I intend to have a new car. (But I won’t be able to afford it.) Therein lies the reason to set the intention in the first place, because Yeah but… and But I won’t… are simply beliefs – ill-serving ones, in this case, because they don’t align with your desire and, thus, will prevent your desire from manifesting. So your spiritually responsible mission, if you will, is to take responsibility for making sure that you are not the one blocking yourself from getting what you want. That’s what I’m doing with my re-calibration. Since I mentioned it, let’s look at my book project. The intention is to have it published and so my first task is to imagine it all as I want it to be, in an ideal world where money’s no object and nobody can say no. Something like, My book is in stores in featured locations. People are buying it like crazy. Then I look for any and all beliefs that arise that counter that desire like It just doesn’t happen like that for first-time authors or If it were that simple, everyone would do it. Once I see that I myself am harboring any ill-serving beliefs – a task made much easier by stating the intention – I can just get rid of them. They are, after all, just hunks of energy that happen not to vibrate where my desire does and we know that energy doesn’t get created or destroyed – it just changes form, gets transmuted. So if I do nothing else at all, I can simply replace the ill-serving beliefs with ones that do serve like I am an exception to the rules and a large audience is waiting for this book. When I listen to inspiration – my gut – I know that these beliefs are a much closer vibrational match for my book is in stores than the other ones I had. With my thoughts in alignment, I move on to feelings, which kind of turbo-charge our creations. I imagine, in the present moment, what it feels like to have my book flying off the shelves. Exciting. Humbling. Joyful. And now with thoughts and feelings in alignment, I round out the process with a nod to the Universe about the ripple effects of having my desire fulfilled e.g., the book will uplift and heal people and give me the space and freedom to expand my ability to be of service, etc. I learned somewhere along the line to put this all into three paragraphs: the thoughts (intention), the feelings it produces, and the ripple effects of it all. When it’s tight and concise and I’ve cleared out any ill-serving beliefs, I simply repeat it over and over again until I embody it and think it and feel it as a matter of course. Then I do the same thing with all the other projects I have going and my re-calibration is complete. As I often say, I didn’t make any of this stuff up and it’s certainly not the only way to consciously engage the law of attraction. But it’s an excellent exercise to help make sure that we’re on track for whatever it is we are wanting to create in our lives. And what underlies all of it is that we are the ones who are responsible for allowing it to happen.
