Let Spring Happen Inside of You
By Nira Schneider, MA

April, May and June, the three months of Spring, is a time in the year in which we have the opportunity to receive enormous energies from Nature. In fact, we draw Natural energy of some kind or another all through the year, but during these months we can soak in the largest amounts of it.

Much like seeds that sprout in spring, the body’s systems have the power to break though blockage and to move forward blood, energy, creativity and fertility. Also, negative emotions like anger and depression can be more easily removed. During the three months of the spring we are able to to renew ourselves from inside and get rid of anything that is pulling us down and is unnecessary.

Each one of the three Spring months, brings with it a unique kind of energy. April, whose astrological sign is Aries, brings along the energy of bursting forward. This is a primal type of energy which defines and gives life to every new organism.

This energy relates to the cyclical element of rejuvenation and an awakening, following the end of Winter. The Life Force returns and re-appears, following a cyclical “death”- and now it is even stronger than before.  This force is pure and direct, a new and clear direction to follow. It awakens within us the urge to act, create, give birth and move forcefully toward goals.

During May, marked by Taurus, the “bursting forward” energy thickens, becomes sustained and is preserved. Being “put in the ground”, it is responsible for an incredible blossoming that happens, a blossoming of smells, colors and shapes.

Finally, in June, a month marked by Gemini, energy is being spread all over, once again helping us fulfill goals. The process of fertilization and seed spreading happens in Nature, such as butterflies spreading pollen from flower to flower.

When we allow the creative, vital and strong forces of Spring to penetrate and work inside our body, we are included in Nature’s powerful law and cycle- and are in balance and harmony with it. Then too we will blossom and bloom and will be able to awaken inner forces and hidden talents. We will be able to function to our fullest potential. More than any other season, Spring pushes us to make this connection.

How is it done? The key to allow it, is nutrition. A proper diet enhances the awakening of the sensitivity and the flow of the nature’s energy. Our body is a condensation of various levels of  energy. With the body there are certain energies that one is able to experience on a subtle, yet sensory level. The spring forces will flow through those subtle channels of the body as long as the channels are not blocked due to undisciplined habits of eating and an immoderate lifestyle.

When those channels are blocked we are not allowing the energy of spring to flow and act with its full forces inside us.

Therefore, this is the time for detoxification and for opening the channels.  I will suggest a list of foods that have certain cleansing abilities and that will allow an average healthy person to continue their normal active lifestyle while letting the body cleanse. This cleanse is especially mild.  People who are interested in a deeper cleanse or have health issues need to work out a specific program with a specialist. Out of the list you can also  make a variety and tasty recipes.

  • Beans and legumes have toxic cleaning abilities. The darker the beans, the higher the protein level and cleansing qualities.
  • Grains such as spelt, rye, corn, quinoa, barley, millet and brown rice are all easy to digest and will help the cleansing process. Millet is ‘the king of detox’- it soaks toxins and softens the bowels. Spelt collects waste from our digestive system. Rye contributes to cell renewal and cleansing through urination.
  • Vegetables are rich in fiber and enzymes and have a high level of chlorophyll. As with beans so it is with vegetables: the darker the better. Chlorophyll renews liver cells, soaks toxins and gets rid of them.
  • Artichoke cleans the liver. Onion, garlic, radish and turnip are rich in compounds that are excellent for getting rid of toxins, especially heavy metals that sink in the tissues and joints. Beets clean the blood and digestive system and relieve constipation. Seaweed cleans the liver and contributes to the renewal of the digestive system. Sprouts should be a daily addition to every salad. They have a high nutritional value and help renew every cell of the body.
  • Various fruit will be effective, mostly pears, watermelons, cantaloupes and grapes. Fruit should be eaten as a separate meal and shouldn’t be mixed with each other. Lemon and vinegar are essential for cleaning the blood and liver. Add a spoonful of vinegar and 1-2 teaspoons of lemon juice to water and drink on an empty stomach. You can also mix them into a salad.
  • Unheated olive and sesame oils will lubricate the system disinfect it and help the liver function better. Raw pumpkin and sunflower seeds (1-2) teaspoons a day will do the same.
  • Liquids are of great importance, for they wash the systems. Drink plenty of mineral water and fresh squeezed fruit and vegetable juices.
