Keep It Clean This Season

By Nina Venturella

With the beautiful weather, we welcome back friends and family from far and near. This is the time of year the desert seems most magical. Our spirits are lifted and with good friends and the holidays, we celebrate!

Then we feel it the next day, or the next week, however long your celebration continues. It’s all part of “the season” and we moan as we get out of bed, but with a smile on our face.

Celebration of life is a big part of desert life, as are health and healing. You can have both and, if you so desire, you should. Good friends, good wine and fine food are why we come to or live in this magnificent resort area. So are hiking, biking, golf and tennis. And when too much of the former keeps you from doing the latter, we seek cures to make the pains go away. Fortunately, there are always the hot springs, massage treatments and magnificent spas for which the valley is also known.

But let’s take a closer look at this pattern and the effect it is having on your body. When you drink alcohol or eat foods that are difficult for your body to process, where does all that junk go? It remains in your body, primarily in the lymphatic system and in your body tissue as toxins. In the short term these toxins can make you to feel sluggish, heavy, achy and irritable. In the long run, they can lead to heart disease, cancer, immobility and even death.

Most people take a pill or supplement to make these symptoms go away. But are you really getting to the root of the problem? To truly rid yourself of the toxins that are creating the symptoms, you need to treat your body’s internal systems where the toxins are being stored. This can be done through body detoxification treatments such as specialized sauna treatments, lymphatic drainage massage, herbal wraps, specialized skin brushing and ionized foot cleanses. These noninvasive treatments work to open your pores and release toxins that can then be washed away. The experience can feel like a day at the spa, but with deeper results. It cleanses you from the inside out. Incorporating these treatments into your regular routine can also result in healthy and sustainable weight loss.

While exercise and a proper diet are always recommended for good health, all of us are susceptible to over-doing it every once in awhile, especially during the holidays. To maintain and improve your health, you need to “keep it clean.”Just remember: When trying to balance the good with the bad, the bad is always much harder to get rid of. Your body will always appreciate a true cleanse from those stubborn toxins you’ve been storing, possibly for probably many years. When successful, the result is a truly lighter, brighter feeling.

Enjoy the season! Celebrate with family and friends, but remember to take care of your body. Balance those not-so-healthy activities with healthy food, exercise and a body detoxification program administered by a qualified health practitioner.
