What Questions Have You Been Asking Yourself?
By Anne Jenkins, D.C.

Thinking is the process of asking yourself questions and answering them.  The questions you ask yourself determine almost every experience in your life—including how you feel, what you accomplish, who you influence, what actions your take, and what decisions you make.

Let’s explore how the questions we ask ourselves are influenced and determined by the four sacred seasons of our life’s healing journey…

These seasons are Discover, Transform, and Awaken and Integrate.  As you read the questions associated with each season, I invite you to ask each question outloud as you are reading, feeling each question’s affect on your body and mind.  This will help you to distinguish between the questions of each season and the feelings, perceptions, and experiences unique to each season.

Discover:  In the season of discover, we are discovering how we’ve learned to defend ourselves from the world.  Our focus is on what we’ve done to move away from pain and how we’ve imprisoned ourselves by focusing on the perceived cause of that pain or the pain itself.  Some questions we may ask in discover are:  What’s wrong with me?  Why me?  Why not me?  Why does this happen to me?  What is the cause of this?  Why am I so stuck?

Transform:  In the season of transform, we embody personal ownership for having re-enacted and sustained our defense strategies and our lack of authentic expression of our own true nature.  Our focus is on transforming our stories, rules, models and relationships and on reclaiming our strength, courage, and wisdom.  Some questions we may ask ourselves in transform are:  What can I do to never disempower myself again?  How can I express more of my courage?  Who do I need to be in the future?  How can I resolve this now?

Awaken:  In the season of Awaken, we take actions based upon the experiences of love, compassion, and gratitude emanating from the interconnectedness of All of Us.  Our focus is on greater depth, freedom, and knowledge of our own profound and effortless authentic nature as it unfolds in our lives.  Questions we may ask ourselves in Awaken are:  How can I grow the gratitude?  Where is the joy?  Where is the gift in this?  How can I better give my gifts in joy and gratitude?  How can I better be another’s wisdom, and they be mine?

Integrate:  In the season of Integrate, we re-visit a previous season while maintaining perspectives from the subsequent season.  Our focus is on gaining greater depth of a previous season.  Questions we ask ourselves in Integrate are a combination of the questions we ask in Discover, Transform, and Awaken.

One of the easiest ways to shift your perspective is to ASK YOURSELF BETTER QUESTIONS!  With this new awareness, make the decision to ask yourself questions from the season that will most serve you in creating the personal and professional life you want and deserve!
