Detoxify with an Ionic Foot Bath A Healthy Times Product Review I am sitting comfortably in a treatment room at Stillpoint Center for Integrative Medicine in Temecula. This is where Drs. Kurt Woeller, Tracy Tranchitella and Nicola McFadzean practice. My bare feet are resting in a nice, warm tub of clear salt water. There is a device in the water near my feet that is producing a low grade electrical current. When I first put my feet in that water I ask Sandy, the medical assistant, if she is going to detoxify me or torture me. Good for a chuckle. After 10 minutes of soaking I begin to notice the strangest phenomenon I’ve seen in quite a while. The water in the tub is clouding with hundreds of tiny black specs. After 20 minutes, the average length of an ionic foot bath, the water has turned slightly “yellowish” and is literally filled with thousands of these black flakes. What is all this debris in the water and what did my feet have to do with it? The debris is nothing more than toxic waste material that has been released through the skin. Incidentally, a study at New York’s Mt. Sinai Hospital recently found 167 industrial and agricultural chemicals in the human body (nine people were used as samples, including journalist Bill Moyers). These chemicals have been linked to cancers, nervous system malfunctions and birth defects. The possibility of dumping a mix of such chemicals, heavy metals and waste products through my feet had never before entered into my imagination, so of course I was curious and a bit skeptical that this would even be feasible. Yet, here I sit, staring this very reality in the face. Kurt Woeller, D.O. told me prior to my foot bath, “When we first purchased the machine we hooked it up and ran it alone for 45 minutes. We wanted to see what the device would do all by itself, without anyone’s feet in the water. After 45 minutes we had a slight discoloration in the water, but no black flakes, no discharge whatsoever”. So, it is the interaction of the device in the water with human feet that produces the waste material. How does this happen? The foot bath uses a direct micro-current that is very similar to low voltage electro-stimulation or cold laser, both of which have been proven to increase cellular ATP (stored energy). Introducing this increase in energy allows the cells to purge toxins at a much higher rate. The warm salt water is used as a conduit for exchanging ions – in other words the foot bath is like a magnet that energizes the cells and draws out toxic material right before your eyes. What can we expect to experience from a program that includes use of the ionic foot bath? As ever, you will only know for yourself once you try it. However, empirical evidence suggests that healthy individuals can expect to feel lighter, more energetic and have a greater feeling of well-being. Some patients with pain, gout, headaches and swollen joints have reported immediate relief. Other patients with arthritis, allergies, lymphedema, neuralgia and other symptoms have experienced relief and benefits with multiple treatments. Walking out of Stillpoint after my foot bath, I am feeling much lighter and more energetic, similar to how I’d feel after perhaps the best night of sleep imaginable. And of course, I am impressed as always with Stillpoint, which integrates the very best of western and alternative medicine. Such practitioners are a gift to our community and it is my pleasure to know them.
