Healthy Times Ahead From several sources in this issue I am reminded that it is the basics in life that we so often overlook. I wonder why this is the case. In the problem areas of my life I can tell you that I already know simple solutions that will resolve, or go along way toward resolving the issues. How is it that I so often overlook the obvious? It seems part of a larger pattern that several of our columnists point to. Patch Adams explains that effective medicine is based on love for the patient…and seems to lament the fact that many practitioners don’t take the time to even get to know much about their patients other than a set of symptoms. Love your patients. Get to know them. Pretty basic. In her article Marilu Henner demonstrates the need to “walk your talk”…to be an example of your own expertise. Apply what you know to your own life first; teach it second. Dr. Kurt Woeller and Nira Schneider give us poignant reminders of how powerful food is. Dr. Woeller comments that people tend to overlook the fundamental fact that your healing program can’t compensate for loading harmful substances into your body on a daily basis through a poor diet. All such fundamental concepts…and so commonly forgotten! We could all make a list of several things we already know we could be doing to improve our lives in some manner. If we’re not doing them….why not? My answer is that it requires discipline and sacrificing my naturally self-indulgent ways…it’s difficult. So, I am grateful for those who remind me constantly of what I already know is best….and point the way toward health. These messages play an important role in my life. My sincere thanks goes to all who have contributed here…..
