THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH DISCOVERED

Until now, there has been little encouragement to turn back the clock without surgery, and even surgery cannot improve the skin’s condition. As skin ages, it looses elasticity and begins to sag and wrinkle.  Skin texture becomes dull and uneven, pores become larger and brown spots may appear.  Historically, there has been no successful therapies for smoothing acne scars, repairing sun damage and hyperpigmentation (brown spots).

In the past, superficial treatments such as microdermabrasion (a sanding of the skin) were used to exfoliate the skin for a healthy glow and fresh look, but even a series of microdermabrasion treatments may not provide much improvement, and can cause broken capillaries.

Going deeper than microdermabrasion, mid depth peels are able to remove more layers of the epidermis (top layer) and can be very effective at lightening brown spots and improving fine lines and sun damage.

Laser treatments promise to be even more effective than peels for treating the more severe skin problems. The newest technology, the Fraxel Laser, has proven to be more effective than the others .The Fraxel Laser has been FDA approved to dramatically improve conditions such as skin discoloration, acne scars, enlarged pores, sun damage, wrinkles and texture. Fraxel treatments stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, and create new, healthy, tighter tissue.

Until Fraxel, there were only two types of laser resurfacing treatments, ablative and non-ablative. The Co2 and Erbium are ablative treatments which remove more layers of skin than a peel. They are effective, but with significant side effects, and require a lengthy healing period.  The other Laser treatments, IPL or Photo facial, are non-ablative, have little or no side effects and almost no healing time, but have limited results at best.

Fraxel Laser treatments offer the effectiveness of ablative treatments with little or no downtime and no side effects, and are effective even on delicate skin areas such as the neck, chest and hands.

Fraxel laser treatments range from $1000-$2000 and are sold in a series. You will find the price will vary depending on your demographics. Fraxel laser treatments are performed by doctors or nurse practitioners under a doctor’s supervision. Most people prefer a doctor, as this is a class IV medical device and used with a topical numbing solution and prescription medication.

Dr. Robert Gould is a board certified surgeon with specialized training in the science of fractional photothermolysis and the Fraxel laser practicum. He has had extensive experience with the original Fraxel 750 since it’s release in 2005, and is now one of the first physicians in the country to have the newest and most advanced  Fraxel Sr 1500 laser.
