Feng Shui Yourself! Part 1 Okay … I’m not an expert on Feng Shui … but I am an expert on knowing the energy flow of a person’s overall look. This is the first part of a three-part series on your overall look. Enjoy finding discoveries about YOU! Life is constantly changing around you. People move, change jobs and partners, kids move out, new babies come in. Sometimes the very essence of who you are changes because you shift your way of thinking. Beliefs, goals, ideas may cause changes and shifts in how you feel about yourself. Yet, why do you not change your hairstyle, color or even the style of your clothes? * Does your hair match your personality? Does your hair match your personality? One of the most important things you need in order to create a great hairstyle for yourself is to make sure the style matches your personality. Many times I find that a client doesn’t like their hair — but it doesn’t need a BIG change for them to like it. Clients use phrases like “too conservative, too trendy, not trendy enough, boring, blah, I just want to jazz it up a bit.” I find I don’t have to change the cut or color into something completely different — usually it just needs to be tweaked a bit to fit the personality. This takes the word scary out of change and moves a client into a more comfortable position where success is achieved. What style goes with your face shape? To see your true face shape, all hair must be pulled off your face with your forehead exposed! Yes, fully exposed — don’t panic! We’re not looking at lines and wrinkles — just SHAPE! Look at the outline of your face — the perimeter. What does the jawbone do? What are the sides doing? Faces come in many shapes — square, rectangle, heart, triangle, inverted triangle, diamond, round, and the ever so popular oval. The perfect oval — this is the shape we all want to achieve! So, here’s the big secret: you want to put a style on your head that makes your face look as close to OVAL as possible! The easiest exercise is to draw your face shape on a piece of paper. Now, with your pencil, fill out areas or cover areas to make your face shape oval. That’s a simple way of saying this is what you need to do with your haircut or style. Changes can also be done with color. Hair color is make-up for the head. Hairstylists use it the same way a make-up artist uses make-up on the face. Color can brighten or highlight features you want to stand out — such as your eyes or skin. Color can also be used to recede or soften something that might not be considered a best feature. Truly, CUTTING and COLOR go hand-in-hand when it comes to your overall look. No matter what you do, it must match your personality! Hair can be one of your greatest expressions! You change your expression — so why not change your hair? Even if it is only slightly! Lori Dawn
