TRADITIONAL ASIAN MEDICINE

Achieving Physical, Mental and Spiritual Balance
For more than 5000 years, practitioners of Traditional Asian Medicine (TAM) have sought to correct imbalance in the body as a way of fighting disease, increasing energy, and enhancing overall physical, mental and spiritual health.

The principles of TAM focus on the body as an entire organism, whose organs and systems are interdependent on each other for optimal function and health. One principle used to define health is something familiar to most Westerners … yin, which is the “cold”, must be in balance with the yang, the “warm”. Another underlying principle of Asian healing is that of qi (“chee”), “a life force” or “spiritual energy” considered to be a vital part of every living thing.

Causes of Imbalance
The causes of imbalance are varied, and are behind many of today’s most common health complaints. Chronic emotional stress is a major contributor, and for most of us, a hectic lifestyle filled with deadlines, bills, and traffic is the rule rather than the exception. Physical stress obviously plays a tremendous role. Of course, a poor diet is probably the number one contributor to imbalance. The result of this “imbalance” is a higher risk of disease, less vitality, and a reduced quality of life.

Eastern vs. Western Medicine
For generations, practitioners of TAM in various cultures have sought to use healing interventions often in the form of plants, fruits and other botanicals, to adjust the yin and yang, the qi, and the overall balance of the body, mind and spirit. It’s important to note that Western and Eastern health practitioners have differed significantly in their methodology, approach and overall philosophy.

In the development of both approaches. Western medicine, which is largely defined by the pharmaceutical industry, is built on about 200 years of synthetic chemistry of mostly single-compound drugs. TAM, on the other hand, is built on several millennia of collective wisdom, as TAM practitioners have developed, refined, and perfected the botanical formulations used to achieve balance in the body.

TAM and Pei Fang
The ideal result is a true synergy of balance. It’s important to note that most botanical formulations used by Chinese and other Asian healers are unique in the way they are combined. They are not just a combination of fruits and plants selected randomly because of a variety of benefits. Rather, the individual ingredients are chosen using the principle of “pei fang”. This means that the ingredients have been combined in precise measurements and in the right order and then the extract is taken from that entire blend of precisely combined ingredients. This method has been tested, refined and continuously improved by generations of TAM specialists over centuries.

The Need for a Balance Supplement
Today’s world is fraught with threats to our health. A hectic life-style only compounds the problems of poor diet, lack of exercise, chronic stress levels and diminishing sleep; all problems common in today’s society and affecting millions of people. That’s why properly formulated and well balanced nutritional supplements are needed now more than ever.  A supplement that provides the balancing effect perfected over centuries by TAM practitioners is ideal.

Clinical Studies
In 2007, a research group had the opportunity to study the effects of a new herbal/juice product that was based solely on TAM and contained a balanced blend of 20 natural ingredients intended to deliver healthy energy levels and enhanced mood.

They studied TAM in 2 groups of “stressed” individuals. The subjects were about evenly split between Men and Women with ages ranging from 16 to 65. They were evaluated for mood and energy effects using a very well-validated psychological research tool called POMS (Profile of Mood States). The POMS is perhaps the best-studied and most sensitive psychology tool – it has been used in more than 3,000 research trials designed to assess the effectiveness of various “interventions” such as stress management, antidepressant therapy, biofeedback regimens, and many other treatments.

In the groups receiving the TAM blend, it found significant improvements in Global Mood State (up to 19%) and Vigor (up to 47%), while measures of Tension and Fatigue were significantly reduced (up to 53%). The results have been presented at leading peer-reviewed nutrition research conferences, including the International Society for Sports Nutrition (June 2007) and the largest nutrition science conference in the world (Experimental Biology in April 2008)

With stress levels around the world rising, it is comforting to know that the ancient wisdom found in a TAM blend can provide positive health benefits. The results that have been observed, demonstrate to us that a properly-formulated herb/superfruit blend, based on traditional Asian medicine, can be an important and effective approach to enhance mood and healthy energy levels in all of us.
