Across North America, physicians in conjunction with compounding pharmacists are meeting the needs of both peri-menopausal and menopausal women with the use of Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT).

These hormones are appealing because they are derived from natural plant sources. Centers focused on aging and wellness are providing treatment, BHRT and nutritional supplements to address the needs of men and women. Initial visits usually include a physical examination as well as an analysis of diet, lifestyle and stress, and an accurate measurement of hormone levels through blood or saliva tests.

If certain hormones are not at optimal levels, natural estrogen, testosterone and progesterone can be prescribed for the specific needs and balance of each individual. Creating these custom medications requires the technical training and expertise of a compounding pharmacist.

We begin with plant-based hormones that are pharmaceutical grade and measure them to the exact patient needs. We work in triad with the patient and physician to start and maintain bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. Hormones can be placed in a variety of dosage forms including: capsules, topical gels and creams, suppositories, sublingual troches or lozenges as well as sterile injectables.

As the patient works with the physician and compounding pharmacist, she can choose the dosage route that is most beneficial and pleasing. Regular testing can help determine optimum BHRT levels and safety.
