The Year Ahead: Astrology Forecast for 2009
by Elliot Jay Tanzer, Astrologer and Feng Shui Practitioner
In astrology, it is said “that which is born in the moment, has the energy of the moment.” This can be seen in one’s Birth Chart, the signing of important papers, and even in the initiation of new ideas. Below are some of the larger cosmic cycles that will be providing the context for earthly events over the next year or years.
Pluto in Capricorn – Jan. 25, '08 to 2024
The major astrological phenomena of our time is the generational shift of Pluto into Capricorn. Pluto was last in the sign of Capricorn during the American Revolution, which coincided with the change in political philosophy from rule by aristocracy to the ascension of corporations.
Now we can hope that what seems like the beginning of the people's outrage and rejection of political corruption, corporate excesses, military opportunism, the dominance of the medical establishment over natural healing modalities, agribusiness' perversion of wholesome food supplies and the lack of regard for the environment, will continue to grow in momentum to effect actual change.
Pluto's trip through Capricorn brings a “let’s-get-serious” attitude and a tightening of the belt as excesses give way to lean and efficient.
Saturn in Virgo – Sept. 2007 to 2010
Saturn's entry into Virgo, little over a year ago, shifted the focus from the previous two and a half years of “me-first” Leo consumerism and government abuse to discriminating, frugal and ever increasingly health conscious Virgo, along with the need to clean up the environment. Saturn in Virgo should combine well with Pluto in Capricorn to bring people and society as a whole down to earth.
Saturn opposite Uranus – Exact days: Nov. 4, 2008; Feb. 5, 2009; Sept. 15, 2009 and April 27, 2010
Saturn and Uranus represent the ongoing tug of war between conservative contraction and progressive expansion. The first was amazingly on Election Day! Though specific calendar days are listed, this combination is another glimpse into the larger social change the world is going through during this interaction of these two planetary energies.
The last time these two planets were in opposition was the mid-60s and the social struggles of that decade between the conservative and the far out; likewise in the rebellious 1920s. As in both of those former times, change is not just about outrageous dress styles, but what everything - from style to politics - might mean in progressive terms as a relaxation of uptightness and conformity and departure from accepted norms of social expectation. Before the year is over we will see revolutionary changes not just in the western hemisphere and Europe, but throughout Africa and even in China.
Jupiter conjunct Neptune in Aquarius – May 27, July 10 and Dec. 21
This is the combination that offers the hope that idealism can triumphant over cynicism. That despite the tension of Saturn contraction and Pluto upheaval, there is hope that innovative technologies to progressive policies will save the day. Yet, another hope that the new Leo president with Aquarius Rising, (born the Virgo time of day) will stay focused on fulfilling his pledge to do that which is in the highest interest of all.
Chinese New Year – Year of Yin Earth Ox begins Jan. 26
Kung Hee Fat Choy: May Your Year Be Fortunate
The Ox is the sign of prosperity through fortitude and hard work. It is also the sign of the born leader, being quite dependable and possessing an innate ability to achieve great things. As one might guess, such people are dependable, calm and modest.
Like their animal namesake, Ox people are unswervingly patient, tireless in their work and capable of enduring any amount of hardship without complaint. They engage all the trials of the whole world and seek solutions for them. These people speak little, but are extremely intelligent. When necessary, they are articulate and eloquent.
Sound familiar? That's right; Barack Obama was born in 1961, the Year of the Metal Ox. Remember, though, this may be a year of hard work, after the hard work is done, an abundant harvest will be enjoyed.
