Anxiety and Depression in Children – Does it Exist?

“I believe it does.”   Juilia McKenzie – Homoeopath – Vibrant Health Practice

Medical studies show that the developing embryo is sensitive to all the mother’s emotions and her reactions to situations during the nine-month gestation period.
Once born, babies are like sponges, picking up on all the emotions and activities around them. Also, for the first nine months after birth the baby is still emotionally attached to the mother via an emotional umbilical cord. Babies experience Mum’s emotions through imprinting to her milk or via close physical contact with her.

Babies and small children, when compared to adults, do not know how to ‘process’ these feelings and emotions and this may cause various forms of anxiety. If anxiety is left untreated, it can develop into depression.

Manifestations of baby or child ‘processing’ are displayed in many ways – anger, tantrums, crying, clinging, demanding, nightmares, sulking, non-communication and other behavioural issues.

Causes of this ‘processing’ could be numerous, but a frequent cause encountered in my practice is relationship tensions in the home. This is often, if not always, interpreted by young children as something for which they feel they are to blame.

When we are over stressed, anxious and depressed, it is to do with “perception.” We may perceive a situation differently from the facts of the situation. In a young child this can create anxiety. Remember that anxiety is often fear based.
The definition of fear is:
False
Evidence
Appearing
Real

Homoeopathic Care for Anxiety

Homoeopathy provides us with over 5000 remedies tested by human volunteers, with many more being tested every day. These remedies are safe with no harmful side effects for pregnant women, babies and children.

I use combination remedies as I feel many of us in HK are stressed on many levels from pollution, radiation, chemicals, noise, food additives, work, financial and health issues, etc…

In addition to the physical remedies that I use, I combine flower essences and gem essences for emotional support into my personalized prescriptions, thus supporting the mother and child both physically and emotionally.

These flower/gem essences date back to Egyptian times. They are very powerful, have no side effects, are non-addictive and are very easy to administer.

As a homoeopath I often recommend a mother and baby to take the same medicine – but different quantities. My child patients call them “magic drops” and enjoy them.

Homoeopathic remedies work by restoring balance and activating the ‘vital force’ – in other words, allowing the patients to cure themselves. We are all designed to cure ourselves. Homoeopathy assists and enhances this process.

Homoeopathic first aid kits are available with various combinations of remedies for home use or when traveling. These are indispensable when you have young children.
