Unity – Finding Your Truth and Love Within By Reverend Al Johnson In the late 1880’s Charles and Myrtle Fillmore found that there is a way to health and wholeness through affirmative prayer. Myrtle Fillmore was suffering from tuberculosis and Charles from a past injury – a fall that happened in his youth while ice skating in St. Cloud, MN. The Fillmore’s had excellent results from affirmative prayer. Myrtle was completely cured of her tuberculosis. Charles, whose leg had partially withered, strengthened. They shared their experiences with those in the Kansas City, MO area and small study groups began to form (I found it interesting that the Fillmore’s also established the first vegetarian kitchen and restaurant in Kansas City). In time these study groups became churches. Since then the Unity movement has expanded, with churches currently in the U.S., Canada, Great Britain, Australia, Nigeria, Mexico, Russia, Argentina, Romania, and other countries throughout the world. Unity is committed to assisting those who are truth seekers interested in raising their consciousness through the powers given to us by our Creator, particularly through the power of love. We use the Bible as our textbook and consider Jesus to be our Master Teacher. We also respect the teachings of other wise men such as Krishna, The Buddha, Mohammed, and other teachers and holy men and women that God has endowed with the powers of compassion and love. |
