Successful Weight Loss…A Balancing Act
By Carolyn J. Dean

With the New Year arriving and the holidays left behind, many American adults will now seek a quick weight loss program to help them shed those unwanted pounds.  It’s now estimated that 64.5% of American adults and 15% of children are overweight or obese.  Overweight is defined as roughly 10-30 pounds over an ideal weight.  “Obesity” is defined as 30 or more pounds over an ideal weight.  Obesity is on the verge of surpassing smoking as the #1 cause of preventable death in America.

Being overweight leads to a risk for diabetes, heart disease, liver disease, cancer, arthritis, and most other degenerative health problems.  The risk of extra weight is the same as 20 years of aging, taking an average of 7 years off a person’s life.  Weight related problems contribute to a decline in the quality of life.

We are bombarded with several new weight loss programs yearly.  Many have experimented with many of the conventional approaches to weight loss, such as:

 *Chemical appetite suppressants
*Diets based on creating an enemy of fats or carbohydrates, depriving the body of the
balance that it needs for maximum health
*Surgery, including liposuction and gastric bypass

However, many are seeking a more natural, balanced approach to weight loss through lifestyle wellness programs that accomplish the following:

*Reduce calorie intake while enhancing nutrition and stabilizing blood sugar levels
*Achieve a completely safe weight loss of excess fat rather than protein tissue
*Lower cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood stream
*Appease the appetite naturally rather than suppressing it chemically
*Encourage consuming a variety of whole, unprocessed healthy, clean, highly nutritious
foods from vegetables, fruits, high quality proteins, healthy fats found in unsaturated
cold pressed oils such as olive, safflower, sesame and flaxseed oils
*Low calorie, low Glycemic food choices
*Increase water intake and exercise to facilitate weight loss
*Provide a nutritional support with a complete vitamin and mineral formula,
antioxidants, and digestive enzymes to assure assimilation
 *Speed up food processing time
*Detoxify the body, vital organs, liver, kidneys, and purify the blood
*Cleanse the intestinal tract of old waste material and hard encrustations
 *Practice stress management

Many are now taking the responsibility for their own health by balancing their life with
healthier food choices, lots of water, daily exercise and stress management and are enjoying greater health benefits and an improved quality of life.  I’d like to share with you two fine testimonials. These testimonials show how they achieved real results after completing a 3 month Fitness Challenge by combining healthy foods and regular exercise. After finishing their challenge, they were interviewed as to what helped them achieve their fitness goals.  Jason Phelps, the male winner of the Fitness Challenge, lost over 20 lbs of body fat and increased lean muscle.  Jason states, “Nothing fancy helped me, just being accountable for your own actions.  I did a mixture of cardio most days of the week, and strength training 2-3 times a week.  Regarding my diet, I ate lots of small meals throughout the day – lots of fruit, vegetables, chicken and didn’t eat late at night.  I made sure I ate breakfast and skipped no meals!”

Judy Johnson, who won two of the women’s fitness events, said what helped her to change, “Since I was now turning 60 years of age, I wanted to change and become fit more than ever before.  This Fit Challenge was just what I needed.  Regarding my strategy, I learned I needed to do more cardio workouts, so I did 4 to 6 cardio workouts weekly inside my fat burning zone.  When I saw I was losing body fat and weight I was motivated even more. Nutrition was the biggest change I made.  I made sure I had enough protein as well as the proper amount of carbohydrates and good fats.  I ate very healthy and clean.  I was so thrilled to drop my body fat over 10%  to 20% and gained lean mass at the same time.  Due to my wonderful results, I feel fitness is forever a part of my life!”

Both of Jason and Judy have learned that the key to permanent weigh loss is a balancing act of accountability, healthy foods and daily exercise! There are no quick fixes – sorry!
