Real People, Real Results

By Mike Bundrant

Nothing shows credibility like real-world results.  This was my impression after meeting with Carolyn J. Dean (CJ) of BodyWorks by CJ, in Hemet.  CJ told me about a very effective weight loss and detoxification program that her company has taken nearly 1000 people through. Then, I was able to interview a recent graduate from the program to learn of her experience.  I learned, once again, that real improvements in our health can occur, doctors can be amazed, and lives greatly enhanced with the right approach to health and the proper information at our disposal.  Please enjoy a bit of our conversations….

HT:  Can you give me an overview of the program and the key elements?

CJ:  The name of the program is the M’Lis Candida Program.  This program basically gets overgrowth of yeast under control.  The Wellness Consultants here at BodyWorks have found that this condition can block weight loss.

HT: How?

CJ:  The yeast feeds on sugar and it creates a craving for sugary foods, breads, alcohol, coffee….  People tend to go for those foods, which put weight on.  If you have excess yeast, you will always crave the wrong foods!  Diets that don’t eliminate these foods won’t work effectively for those who have excess yeast.  We’re really working with an underlying cause of weight retention here.

By taking these kinds of foods out of the diet, the yeast begins to die. Of course this is not all yeast.  We want to keep good yeast in the body – but here we’re talking about overgrowth of yeast.  Most of it will die within the first 6 days of the program by simply eliminating the wrong foods from the diet.  And we give people a complete list both of the foods to avoid and the foods that we want in the diet – good foods like lean proteins – chicken, fish, vegetables of all varieties.

We’ve done a lot of homework. I’ve been all over Hemet and Temecula to all of the grocery stores looking for foods that people can enjoy on this diet.  We’ve even found bread this is OK to eat – bread with no yeast in it so people can make a sandwich.  We teach people how to make mayonnaise without vinegar and cookies without sugar….we’ve been collecting all kinds of recipes over the last four years and we share them.

HT:  Is this a permanent change in diet, or temporary?

CJ:  We put people on the candida diet for 30 days and then we test them by introducing cooked fruit into the diet.  If they do well, then we move on to raw fruit and so on… Our goal is to get people to eat from all healthy food groups.  If they need to be on the program longer, we will know because the old symptoms will return such as:  fatigue, headaches, bloating in the stomach, a “gassy” feeling in the stomach, irritability…they know something is not right because they were feeling so good and suddenly they aren’t anymore.

HT:  And exercise is part of the program?

CJ: Oh, yes.  Exercise cleanses the body.  When you’re releasing toxins and the yeast is dying, you need to move the body to help eliminate the toxins….keep the blood flowing and get plenty of oxygen.  We encourage people to do cardio at least 3 days per week – it depends on their fitness level.  We also encourage weight training.  This is important for women because they need to increase or maintain lean muscle in order to burn more calories daily.  Weight training also helps women tighten and reshape their bodies as they are losing weight.  Cardio workouts alone are not enough.  Many women also need more upper body and core muscle strength.

We need it all…the total approach!  We need plenty of good, clean water.  We need exercise.  We encourage them to take time to relax and distress – to be happy.  We need to each find our little ways to make ourselves happy and feel good each day.  We want people to take care of themselves, to feel good about themselves, and not be too critical and compare themselves to others all the times.

We try to make them realize that they are unique and have something to offer that no one else has – and make them the best they can be.  You may never be a size 2 or even a size 4…but you might be a size 8 and really be a beautiful size 8!

HT:  What program did you go through?

JJ:  When I first started I went through the candida program.  I lost 30 pounds in 3 months.  The first month is the hardest because you’re going through the detox and you’re learning to eat…well…the exact opposite of what you’ve always eaten…!  You learn a whole different way of eating.  So the first month is really hard….

HT:  How did you get through it?

JJ:  Well, if I would mess up and eat something I wasn’t supposed to eat, I would just get right back on track with the next meal and move on from there.  After a while it just got to be a way of eating….I got used to it…and all the bad food is out of my diet – all the sugars and things in your diet that you don’t really realize how much you are consuming….  I definitely became a label reader!  It was a gradual learning curve with a lot of trial and error… I didn’t have it all down right away.

I still struggle with watching what I eat. When I start eating sugars – I don’t know how to explain it – but my “center” just feels off…there’s no energy.  I feel lethargic…I just feel “blah”…but when I’m on the diet I feel great and have so much energy.  That’s what amazes me more than anything is that I’m able to tell that much of a difference.  Now it’s been a full year since I’ve lost the weight, so I’ve been able to keep it off.  And my whole family has benefited.  My children are “label readers” now…it’s been great.  This has definitely become a lifestyle change – it had to be.

HT:  And I heard that your husband has lost weight too since you began the program.

JJ:  Yeah, he dropped 50 pounds just by eating what I was eating.  And the foods are not all these exotic foods or anything…it’s all very simple, very plain and easy to follow.

I have a lot more energy.  I feel clear and focused.  I want to go do things.  I’m at the point with exercise that I really want to do it – it’s an outlet that I’ve used to distress myself.  You know, I didn’t realize how much damage I was doing to myself with my old lifestyle.  It’s hard to realize until the damage is gone and then it’s like – wow!  Why would I want to go back?

HT:  It’s a wonder that we just don’t realize how eating the wrong foods does so much damage and how much difference eating a clean diet makes.

JJ:  Yeah, eating the wrong foods is like poisoning your body – it’s crazy.
