Skin Rejuvenation with LED Light Therapy

By Carlena  Zanfardino

We are all aware of how beneficial light is to plants and to flowers and how in humans light has been used to heal newborn babies of jaundice.  It has been used to treat depression, to heal wounds and relieve muscular pain.  Seemingly to the contrary, the medical/dermatology field has recognized the severely damaging effects of certain lights, like UVA and UVB, on the skin.

LED (light emitting diode) Light Therapy is an exciting new device that uses non-wounding light at specifically calibrated energies to modulate the cells by increasing the energy to the assembly line of fibroblasts to stimulate collagen production and regenerate aging or sun damaged skin.

LED was first discovered and developed by NASA.  The US Space Program research team examined the effects of gravity on cellular activity and discovered that human cells need gravity to stimulate cell growth.  LED technology proved to promote wound healing and human tissue growth in outer space.  Its effects on earth were even more astounding and proved especially successful in the fields of Dermatology, Neurology and Physiotherapy, a must in the world of beauty and fitness.

Unlike laser technology that relies on high-powered coherent light that creates heat energy.  LED photo modulation triggers the body to convert light energy into cellular energy without thermal injury to the tissue.  Therefore, LED light therapy proves to be a gentle, safe, non-invasive, non-abrasive cosmetic and medical skin treatment – the result of 40 years of skilled research. LED light therapy uses blue, green, yellow and red lights set at specific and monitored wavelengths and pulses to benefit these skin conditions:

*Aging *Coupe rose *Acne *Oxygen Starvation*Sun Damage *Flaccid skin  *Rosacea

Most people see results after the first treatment.  All people will feel the results of softer, smoother skin that is lighter, more hydrated and has a glamorous glow.

LED treatments can be used in conjunction with most all facials and treatments including microdermabrasion and proves to have a calming, healing effect.  On its own, a typical program of LED light therapy to target specific skin conditions would be as follows: two 20 minute treatments per week for two weeks, followed by one 20 minute treatment per week for four weeks.

LED and other light therapies have exciting possibilities for the future in the cosmetic and dermatology fields including:  hair restoration, cellulite reduction, and a host of other healing and restorative conditions.
